Creating Diversity with Laser Tools

Now how do you sell a Laboratory Laser invention to a construction worker? Can you put it into a brick and sell it to the layout guy?
Each laser tool works in the hands of a specialist looking for a quick and accurate device to measure something. So, it was decided to make the case of the laser fit the job at hand and literally fit the hand of the person using the laser. At the same time the form of the laser has to fulfill its function. Form begets function is how the saying goes.
For instance:
- A construction laser level has to have a flat side, be small enough to hold but long enough to extend the level reference and maintain accuracy, be eye visible so the user can see and mark the laser dot, be rugged so a drop on concrete won’t damage the tool and operate for an extended period of time on internal batteries.
- An underground mining laser has to have a round surface so that the ventilation wind in the tunnel won’t wiggle the laser. The case can’t spark if dropped and has to have a means to attach to the roof of a coal seam above the moving coal carts. It has to be battery operated for a long time, Intrinsic Safe for use in a Methane/Air environment, be extremely rugged, waterproof, portable and project an eye visible laser dot or line onto the back of the digging machine that might be a 1,000’ away down a tunnel.
- An underwater Laser Scaler has to project two parallel laser lines onto a fish or structure, be non-corrosive in salt water, be waterproof to a 1,000 feet depth, be small and buoyant.
- A Sheave Alignment Laser has to include magnets so a millwright can attach it to a drive sheave (pulley), shoot a parallel line that intersects three adjustable magnet targets placed onto the driven sheave and work in low light and bright light conditions. The laser itself has to be small enough to fit behind the drive belt guards, be battery operated and include a protective carrying case for storage.
Every laser tool has to be designed with a specific application in mind. This is one of the secrets to Laser Tools Co’s competitive edge in the market place. We also design and build laser-based products that have more perceived value in the market place than their dollar cost. It’s also a secret so don’t tell anyone!
